Client nominated as sustainability leader

Landcom is the NSW Government’s property developer. For the past two years (and again this year) Businesswriters & Design has had the pleasure of working alongside its internal team to advise on and write the organisation’s annual and sustainability report. Both Landcom and Woolworths (whose report we worked on last year) have been nominated as finalists in the Banksia Award’s “Leading in Sustainability” category, presented to organsiations who have demonstrated leadership by fully integrating sustainable principles and practices into operational business activities and reducing the organisation’s footprint.

The Banksia Environmental Foundation, established in 1989,  is a national not-for-profit organisation that promotes environmental excellence and sustainability through its awards program and other associated events. The awards are regarded as the most prestigious environmental awards in Australia.

Landcom’s entry on the Banksia Foundation’s website reads: “There is little point in the NSW Government owning Landcom unless it is doing something the private sector can’t do. A decade ago, Landcom identified “implementing sustainable development” as its point of difference with private sector developers and set out to become a national sustainability leader. Landcom has invested heavily in this goal, implementing sustainability in a commercially sound manner, and encouraging the private sector to follow its lead. Landcom has developed innovative sustainability policies and initiatives which guide its thinking and actions, helping its staff implement sustainable practices within their projects. . . . Ten years on, Landcom continues to lead the urban development industry in the pursuit of sustainable development, sharing its intellectual property with others in the industry, and measuring and reporting its progress in its annual Sustainability  Report.
